Situation

An MGA writing SME commercial property on delegated authority received risk information as brokers supplied it. Construction in free text, protection asserted without evidence, flood and subsidence absent unless raised.

34% of submissions went to referral, most for missing information rather than genuine complexity. Average quote turnaround was two working days. Brokers placed elsewhere while waiting.

Approach

Risk_API was integrated at point of quote. Each address returns a validated COPE profile before the risk reaches an underwriter, mapped to the MGA’s appetite rules so that submissions triage automatically into straight-through, refer or decline.

Results

Referral rate fell from 34% to 12% within four months. 61% of submissions now quote in under five minutes.

Triage declined 4% of submissions that would previously have been written, each on exposure the broker had not disclosed. Quoted-to-bound conversion rose 9 points, attributed to turnaround rather than price. Attritional loss ratio improved 5.4 points over twelve months.

Implication

The referral queue was an information problem presenting as a resource problem. Supplying the facts upstream removed the cause.
